Carolyn Martin, President & Chief Executive Officer
With over 20 years of leadership and management experience in Alberta’s energy and technology sectors, Carolyn has had much success in bringing innovation to industries such as renewable energy technologies, emergency preparedness, and disaster notification. Prior to founding Sponsor Energy, she served as President of one of the largest member organizations for Renewable Energy professionals in North America and has previously excelled as VP Business Development in a number of energy and energy technology companies. She is a graduate of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business (Executive Program in Social Entrepreneurship) and committed to advancing socially conscious and profitable businesses.
Kelly Gunsch, Chief Operating Officer
Kelly is an energy industry executive with twenty years of experience in the power industry with a strong track record in electricity markets, commercial operations, portfolio management, business and corporate development. She has served as Vice-President of Market Services for the Alberta Electric System Operator (7 years) and Vice-President of Commercial Operations at TransAlta (10 years) where she was accountable for the strategic and effective management of $3 billion in contracted and uncontracted revenues and key commercial relationships for TransAlta’s generation and transmission fleet globally. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Economics from the University of Calgary.
Gary Holden, Director
Gary has extensive energy experience (mass market retail, generation, renewable energy and infrastructure) and is currently the CEO of Pulse Energy Alliance LP, a privately held energy retailing company operating throughout New Zealand. Mr. Holden previously held positions as President and Chief Executive Officer of ENMAX Corporation, a vertically integrated power and gas utility in Alberta – where under his tenure, revenues grew from $1.2 B to $3.0 B. He was also President of AltaGas Income Trust, Chairman and CEO of EnSource Energy Services and was CEO of TransAlta New Zealand Limited. He was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40 in business and runner up for New Zealand’s CEO of the Year. He was past Chair of the Science Alberta Foundation and currently serves as a director of the Canadian Electricity Association, Climate Change Central and Climate Change Emissions Management Corporation.
Steve King, Director
Steve is the President and CEO of Alaris and has served in that role since he co-founded the company in 2004. Mr. King has also served on the board of directors of Alaris since the company went public in 2008. Prior to creating Alaris, Steve spent 12 years in the investment banking industry in both Toronto and Calgary, advising both public and private company entrepreneurs on their capital raising needs. Mr. King is also a director of Metropolitan Investment Corporation, a private investment company. In addition to overseeing the daily operations of Alaris, Steve is involved in every facet of the investment process and is an integral part of the relationships that are created with each of Alaris’ partners.
Dan Brownsberger, Community Development Manager
With 8 years in the energy sector, Dan excels at working with various industries helping them to understand the complexities of energy management. Dan grew up in Calgary and is a strong proponent of volunteerism, having spent 30 years with the 92nd Group – a Scouting Program for the developmentally disabled, where he was awarded the Scouts Canada Medal of Merit. Dan enjoys getting out in the mountains to hike and mountain bike and is looking forward to managing the ongoing relationship with Sponsor Energy’s Community Partners.
Elvira Pytlik, Office Manager
Elvira brings over 20 years of experience from previous roles as a Consultant in the Immigration Sector, Camp and Travel Coordinator, Office Manager and a HR Administrator within the oil and gas sector and construction industry. Her current responsibilities at Sponsor Energy include AP/AR, billing, and sales and her incredible organization skills keeps our team running smoothly. Elvira has also worked in Europe where she was involved in exploring joint venture opportunities with companies such as Unilever and Homann Deli Food. She graduated in Germany with an Office Manager Certification and remains active in the German Canadian Business Association. Elvira is fluent and able to conduct business in English and German. In her spare time, Elvira enjoys spending time with her husband, Gerrit, daughter Chantal and her 2 Great Danes Elvis and Athos.
Rochelle Bunbury, Customer Service Manager
Rochelle brings with her 7 years of office administration experience to the Sponsor Energy Team! Working in various industries from Interior Design and Architecture to Construction, Rochelle has always focused on understanding all her client’s needs to deliver exceptional customer service. She began her career at Sponsor Energy as a Customer Care Specialist and quickly moved up the ranks after displaying an inherent ability to resolve customer matters efficiently, professionally and courteously. She grew up in Caster Alberta and in her spare time, Rochelle loves to bake, hit the gym and retreat to the mountains whenever possible.
Micheal McOuat, Customer Data Analyst
Micheal has a Bachelor of Psychology degree from the University of Calgary and has worked as a data analyst and customer support for a not-for-profit counselling agency before becoming a caseworker with the Alpha House Society. Working with vulnerable populations that struggled with mental health and recurring homelessness, he assisted clients in strengthening basic skills and connected them to community resources. Micheal has been an advocate of mental health from a young age and is excited to be working for a company that supports numerous local agencies. Born and raised in Northern Alberta, he enjoys the outdoors and is proud of his Metis heritage.
